Finding my path in 2017...

Amituofo!

It has been a while but here is my first post of 2017. 2016 was a year with many highs and many lows.

I finally went training in China. In China I have had a super experience, but I also learned about my own negative sides. Before I went to china I got injured, and that put me in a negative mood also in China. Never the less for me it was a great experience and I learned a lot of new things, wouldn't want to have missed it for the world.

When I came back from China I bought a different house. Here me and Nekodo will turn the living room into a dojo so we can do more training and give classes from home. At the end of the year my hip injury got worse and I got a pretty nasty shoulder injury as well. I also started Chinese Martial Arts (CMA) Nijmegen in September. I hope I can share the joy I get from practising Kung Fu. And one they I hope I can make a living (or at least partial) from sharing what I learned through the years. I will not teach a certain style... I hope to be able to coach my members to have a mind set to start investigating, feeling and playing with the things they do and adapt it to their needs, rather then just copying moves...

In December I decided to almost do no (or only low intensity) training to give my body a rest... For my shoulder this helped, my hip pain got worse though. Since last week I started training more intensely again. The hip pain dropped a little, but I immediately overloaded my shoulder again. So coming weeks I will do more intense training but will not load my shoulder to badly.

I just got notice last week from Bart, who I trained with in China. He is starting with his own school here in the Netherlands and I am going to take classes from him. He has been trained by Master Hu for years already and I can learn a great deal from him, so I am really exited to start there.

Coming year I will also start expanding the things I do with CMA. I will start sharing my experiences in Qi Gong which helped me a lot keeping my body flexible mind focussed especially during the peaks of my injuries. Just like my Kung Fu training, also in Qi Gong I will not stick to 'ancient' methods or 'proven' books and theories... I will share what I experienced to be beneficial and how I use Qi gong to help myself. If you are interested in training with me than let me know!

Amituofo!

I am very sorry for the lack of updates here but I am really busy with a new job and renovating the house I bought in July. So I have other priorities then blogging....

Quick update: My hip is still not ok although I have the feeling it is getting slightly better over time.
However, the shoulder injury that started while I was training in China has gotten worse and worse...
That is now worse then my hip. I don't know yet what the cause of that is but as soon as I find out I'll let you know...

In the mean time I am training a bit less (5 days a week i.s.o. 7). And my focus has shifted a bit from wushu to qi gong and yoga, due to all injuries I have...
I train wushu still 2 of 3 times a week... but I do less 'performance' and more 'application' style training. Since that is better for my body.

Follow my progress on Instagram or follow my training group CMA on the website or facebook if you like!

Long time no see....

Amituofo! Sorry I haven't been posting much. Actually, not really sorry, just had other things to do :) Training for instance :) My hip is slowly but gradually getting a little better and in the mean time my shoulder decided to take over the job as main pain source :( Never mind that, also that will pass away eventually. I did have a great kung fu week last week. Our friend Sifu Heng Jin from Belgium paid us a little visit since he was in the Netherlands any way for other personal business. We did 3 hours of training with him and I finally finished Gui Ding Jian! So now I have 2 Straight sword forms in my curriculum. Time to perfect that and then in a couple of years time start on the next weapen (9 section chain it will be :) )

Really fun to see how kung fu changed my appearance in 2.5 years time

Sweating in Belgium

Amituofo!

Last Sunday we went to Belgium to train with master Shi Heng Jin again.
This time not only Sam and I went, but also a 70 year young woman who trains in my new martial arts training club (www.kungfupowerrr.nl) joined us.

She is the living proof that Kung Fu can be practiced and be beneficial for anyone, she started at age 65 :) and I am so proud she trains with me in my little club.

Hope that she can be an inspiration for many new training partners!
We had a great time in Belgium, I learned another piece of Gui Ding Jian, almost finished it now. But it is really taking my stamina to the limit, its a long form... Have to work on that a lot.

Exciting news!

Amituofo! Sorry I've been quite lately (or may be you think: finally he shuts up with his kung fu stories :) ), but I have been quite busy. As those of you who follow me on Instagram might know I am moving to a new house and am very busy with renovation of the place.
Next to that there is more exciting news! But first some news as well...
I decided to stop following my regular lessons at Kung Tao :(

The stuff I want to practice and learn, and the stuff that my Kung Fu buddy Sam wants to teach and practice is just not inline. I don't want to be standing in the way of his path in Kung Fu so I decided it would be better to split paths and follow my own path as I have always done. Of course I will pay a regular visit if Sam allows me, but I am sure he will.

But...... the good news, due to that new direction on my path I decided to start something for myself.

Starting the 31st of August I will have my own gym on the wednesday evening from 20.00h to 22.00h! More news and details on that will follow soon!
